Hi Ben! Can you tell us a bit about you?

I'm Ben and the founder of booheads. I've always had this itch I needed to scratch and it was to try and run my own business. My entrepreneurial spirit needed to be set free and so booheads really was a collection of many other ideas, projects, failures and hustles. I came from a digital background, so doing a product business was a whole new world for me.

I wouldn't say I'm the most eco-friendly person out there, but I have always been aware of plastics how much it was used. One of my earliest memories was food packaging and how much there was. I also started to get annoyed about one of my family use of plastic water bottles on mass, which seemed to baffle me when we had a tap so from there it really made me think about how can we be more sustainable.

How did you go from entrepreneurship and plastic-reduction to creating booheads?

It's certainly a random one. I was made redundant and entering into Lockdown 2.0 and I needed a project which is what this was originally going to be for me. I explored so many things, but nothing was really giving me enough intrigue. Whilst I was on the verge of giving up a lady walked into the coffee shop and pulled out an electric toothbrush. This got me thinking "How come there isn't any eco-solutions for electric toothbrushes?" and after doing some initial research I saw an underserved market coupled with knowing limitations of why it didn't exist. From there it just evolved as I wanted to investigate - which led me to then getting some sampled and I guess the rest is history, it's been a year since I came up with the idea and it's been an incredible journey so far. We sell multi channel, we sell into US and EU, we have been stocked in stores - I never expected for so much to happen since we went live in February 2021

What's your mission at booheads?

The more I got to understand the market and the environment it has certainly changed. My mission is simple really - giving consumers friendly and alternative solutions where they don't have to comprise their convenience - for me that was the original driving force - from that it means we can then harmonise with the WHY which is to be better for the environment, reduce pollution, reduce our consumption of single-use plastics.

What about your vision for your business and for yourself?

My vision for booheads is simple - keep bringing friendly and colourful toothcare solutions to consumers - keep developing, keep evolving and make as much impact as we can through small changes. Bring booheads to other countries and also find where we can continue to give back. My personal vision for myself is to try and still grow booheads, maybe even explore some other businesses within the sustainability space knowing what I know now, or even work with some other great entrepreneurs and do things together.

Do you have any advice for businesses who'd like to go green but still skeptical about it?

My advice is just to try - you may not have the 100% solution, it may not even exist, however even a slightly 'greener' step forward is better than no steps at all.
